Dear Staff and Families,

With summer around the corner and our students and staff finishing another school year, I would like to thank you for your continued support and partnership throughout the year. The efforts of our dedicated CVUSD staff, the diligence and hard work of our over 9,400 scholars, and your support as students’ caretakers and families are the necessary ingredients for a successful learning institution.

The end of the year is an opportunity to celebrate our students’ achievements and milestones and thank our team of professionals who support our students. It is also a time to reflect on how we can continue our relentless efforts to best support each and every student as we plan for the next school year.

All students deserve robust instruction and support systems that cultivate their genius and enable them to achieve their goals. An area heavily focused on the last two years has been standards based grading. This means that students’ mastery of standards should be determined in a way that allows for multiple opportunities to show growth. Our teachers have spent  a great deal of time refining this work, understanding that consistent  implementation of standards based grading is key.

Another area of focus the last couple of years has been our Professional Learning Communities (PLC) work. Our teachers collaborate to develop common frameworks and assessments, work in their teams/grade level/department and use assessment data to plan their instruction in order to ensure optimal student learning.

Welcoming, equitable, and inclusive spaces are essential for our students’ learning and their wellbeing. Aligned with our district’s core values, our Board Policy 5145.3 and Administrative Regulations 5145.3 were updated at the May 22nd board meeting. This was done to reaffirm our commitment to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all, free of harassment. The updated policy includes clear expectations and accountability related to hate language and racial slurs. We will review the policy and expectations as our students return to school in the fall and look forward to partnering with you on this important work.

As we end this school year,  on behalf of our governance team I would like to congratulate our seniors and wish them great success as they step into their next chapter. These students started their high school career during one of the most difficult times in education history- a pandemic that practically stopped the world in its tracks. They persevered, worked hard, learned, struggled, and showed us what it means to adapt. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to serve and learn from them. They make every one of us proud.

We wish the rest of our students who we have the privilege of continuing to serve next year and all of you a fantastic summer. We look forward to welcoming our wonderful students to the 2024-2025 school year on August 7th.

Best Wishes,

Parvin Ahmadi
