Castro Valley Unified School District Names

Dr. Marie Roberts as Assistant Director of Expanded Learning

Opportunities Programs & Attendance Recovery

CASTRO VALLEY, Calif. — The Castro Valley Unified School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Marie Roberts as the District's new Assistant Director of Expanded Learning Opportunities Programs & Attendance Recovery, a newly created leadership position for the 2026–2027 school year.

The new position reflects the District's continued commitment to supporting student success by expanding access to learning opportunities beyond the school day, while strengthening attendance recovery efforts that help students stay engaged, connected, and on track for academic achievement.

Dr. Roberts currently serves as Assistant Principal at Canyon Middle School, where she has been a member of the school leadership team since 2022. During her time in Castro Valley Unified, she has helped lead student support systems focused on attendance, school climate, intervention, and student engagement.

Prior to joining CVUSD, Dr. Roberts served in a variety of leadership roles across San Jose and Oakland Unified school districts, including principalships at the elementary, continuation, charter, and alternative education levels. Her career spans more than two decades of educational leadership dedicated to supporting students, families, and school communities.

Dr. Roberts earned her Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from East Carolina University and has served students and schools throughout the Bay Area for more than 20 years.

"Dr. Roberts brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, a collaborative leadership style, and a deep commitment to ensuring every student has the support they need to succeed," said Superintendent Dr. Nia Rashidchi. "Her expertise in student support, attendance improvement, and building strong partnerships with families and schools makes her exceptionally well suited to launch this new role."

As Assistant Director of Expanded Learning Opportunities Programs & Attendance Recovery, Dr. Roberts will provide leadership for the District's expanded learning programs, while coordinating attendance recovery initiatives that remove barriers to student engagement and improve educational outcomes. She will work closely with school leaders, staff, families, and community partners to ensure students have meaningful opportunities to learn, connect, and thrive.

The Castro Valley Unified School District looks forward to the vision and leadership Dr. Roberts will bring as the District continues to advance student achievement, improve attendance, and create even greater opportunities for every learner.
